We have seen eagles everywhere we paddled this week, as well as other interesting stuff.

From my kayak 6/7-10

We had 4 days of beautiful weather– bluebird skies, air temperatures around 80ยบ, water temps in the mid to upper 50’s, so we headed for some of our favorite rivers.

We didn’t find any herons and only a few ducks and geese, but there was still a lot to see and hear. The frog sounds were so loud that it drowned out the traffic noise on the Pompy.

First paddle of the season

Yesterday Jane, her son Jaimie, and I went to North Hartland Lake for my first paddle of the season. Turtles, turtles everywhere! On the boom near the dam. On logs up and down the river. On twigs floating in the river. On the mud flats. On rocks… The water was cold (in the 50’s) and the sun was warm.

We also saw eagles, young and old, in the trees and in the air. A hawk in the air. Not many water fowl and only in the distance. A few warblers and sandpipers.

Foxes at Kilowatt

Last winter we found a fox den not far from the trails at Kilowatt. For the last couple of weeks, we have been watching the kit foxes playing and sunning themselves.

Winter with the dogs +

I’ve spent the winter walking with the dogs at Kilowatt Park and Maxfield Sports Center in Hartford, VT.
