We have spent several days a week in our kayaks for the past few weeks. We have just seen a few ducks and geese this year, but a wide variety of other wildlife.
From my kayak 6/7-10
We had 4 days of beautiful weather– bluebird skies, air temperatures around 80º, water temps in the mid to upper 50’s, so we headed for some of our favorite rivers.
We didn’t find any herons and only a few ducks and geese, but there was still a lot to see and hear. The frog sounds were so loud that it drowned out the traffic noise on the Pompy.
9/16-30
We are still kayaking, though more in the afternoons and are still seeing wildlife; some migrant and some resident.Â

Grafton Pond 7/10/18
Jane and I went to Grafton Pond on Tuesday. The loon chicks have hatched and are being tended by their parents. We saw two families of loons, one with a very young chick,
and another with a larger and older chick.
We also found a great blue heron hiding in the bushes.
The Pompy and Grafton Pond
It was a day for green herons on the Pompy on Tuesday: we saw several and they posed nicely.
We also saw great blue herons on the Pompy as well as at Grafton Pond on Wednesday.
The views of Mt Cardigan is always nice.
Of course we saw loons at the pond: a couple that surfaced close to the kayaks and a parent with 2 chicks,
and saw geese and a dog on a SUP.
